One good thing about NY in the summer is there are plenty of beaches around that are relatively easy to access: Jones, Rockaway, and Riis come to mind. This day was spent at Rockaway, laid out in the sun with bae, music, and snacks. I’ve been to the beach so much this summer that I’m probably about a good 6 shades darker than my normal skin complexion, to which I say, give me alllll the amplified melanin. Hats are always good if you’re going to spend the day outside, and I loved this regular beach shirt worn tied twice.

If you guys haven’t noticed yet, I like to make these shoots pretty natural. I don’t want blogging to become a chore, although I definitely set deadlines for myself (or nothing will get done) and brands that I collab. with set them for me, but I want it to be very organic and naturally fit into the flow of my life currently. 9 times out of 10, my posts are just the result of an actual day I had. It’s the organizing, downloading of pics, working on multiple posts simultaneously, writing, editing, and actual forming of the post that takes up the most time.

There’s not much “posing,” mainly because I’m not ashamed to say I don’t really know the best ways to work with my body, and if you’re not a bonafied model I find street style photos more natural and relatable for bloggers anyway—it’s the personality that counts. Nevertheless, I’m still always nervous of how things will come out because of my natural awkwardness. But somehow it always comes together and I end up liking just enough photos to conjure up a post. Because this is me and my journey, I find a lesson in everything, so… there are 3 not-so-groundbreaking things to be learned out of this: 1) never underestimate yourself, because people actually look up to you more than you realize, 2) people are fighting battles nobody else knows about or would think they are, and 3) nobody’s perfect, nobody’s perfect, nobody’s perfect. If you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters. “Keep doing you, somebody gon’ feel it.”
