It’s been a while since I’ve dropped a heavy rotation post but time is just flying this summer and I didn’t even realize it’s been a while because I’ve been posting so many other things! It pains me that we’re already in August. I hope you guys have gotten a chance to catch up on everything on the site over the past month or so, and gotten a chance to hear new music that has come out (which there’s not much of in this post). Here’s what I’ve been listening to recently!
DJ Khaled ft. Rihanna & Bryson Tiller – Wild Thoughts
As if we didn’t already love the classic throwback Carlos Santana tune “Maria Maria” enough… DJ Khaled gave us another one #fortheculture. Two words: summer anthem. It’s funny to think that the kids of today will think of this as the original, but it’s our job to let ’em knowwww!
The Turn Up
playboi carti – magnolia
If you have ears, there’s no way you can resist bustin’ a quick milly to this.
Sza – Broken Clocks
I love an album that I can listen to all the way through and actually enjoy. Broken Clocks is probably top 3 favorites of Ctrl. I talked about another one in a previous Heavy Rotation drop, and you guys will just have to wait for the 3rd—if I can even decide, because I literally love the whole album!
The Wind Down
H.e.R. – Facts
Volume 2 just came out but personally I like Volume 1 better and am still bumpin’ it faithfully. I also randomly found this super dope short film on YouTube that someone made based off her songs from Volume 1 and it’s soooo good.
lucy pearl – dance tonight
Absolutely the most lit summer’s night dance track. What y’all know about this, though?! My mid-twenties+ better be with me on this. I swear, this was when music was simple; simply good. I could understand what was said, and it was just created out of everyday human feelings. Of course I can relate much better now that I’m older, since a lot of this stuff came out when I was so young. Lucy Pearl is the R&B lovechild of En Vogue singer Dawn Robinson, Tony! Toni! Toné! member Raphael Saadiq, and A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Hella classic! And shoutout to Love & Basketball making a cameo in the video.
